LORA BEAVER
Speech-Language Pathologist
RCSSC
I grew up on a farm south of Windom and graduated from Little River High School. I got my AA degree from Hutchinson Community Junior College and completed both my BA and MA degrees from Wichita State University. In 1978 I started working as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Butler County, with a caseload of 85 students. I was there for two years when I was hired by Larry Frisbee in 1980 as one of two SLPs for Rice County. I have worked in every building in the county but now work with kids in grades 3 through 12 in Lyons, with a caseload of 37 students.
My husband Levi and I raised our children in Lyons, and our plans are to continue living here. Two of our children (Susan Reazin and Jason Beaver) returned to live and raise their children in Lyons while two left the state (Kathryn Herbert lives in Texas and Morgan Hoppe in Nevada).
I am hoping to work on some handcraft projects that need to be completed (especially a quilt and some lace making), and spend time working on my family tree. I am looking forward to being able to attend more of the grandchildrens’ activities!

Central Elementary School Secretary
I started working for USD 405 in 1984 at LHS as school secretary. After working their 5 years, the opportunity came up for me to transfer to Central Elementary as a part time school secretary, I was expecting our second child, and at that time the job was just until 1:00 pm. The very next year the job went to full time & I have been at Central now for 32 years!
Throughout the years I’ve enjoyed working with many awesome and dedicated teachers & staff. My co-workers have become my work family and throughout my time at Central, I organized many school social events and worked hard to make our school environment a fun place to work.
I especially enjoy the kids, and now I am seeing the second & third generations of the kids I had when I first started. I love the variety of my job (there is never a dull moment) and I’ve learned to prioritize, juggle & multi-task in many different directions throughout the day. I have worn a lot of different hats from nurse, counselor, principal, & problem solver. I have always had a lot of compassion for needy students & their families and have worked with various charitable organizations to get them help when needed. I hope to still stay involved in that as a community member.
My plans for retirement are to sleep later, travel, work on remodeling projects to the 1963 era home we moved to 2 years ago. I hope to pick up some new hobbies, now that I’ll have the time. I also plan to come back to haunt my Central peeps as a substitute school secretary for the two elementary schools & do some volunteer work in the community.
TERI DWYER

Many moons ago, I received my Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Kansas State University. My first teaching job was in Clay Center, in first grade. I taught there 3 years. Then Kevin and I got married, and we moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where I taught 1st grade 1 year. We then moved to California, and I had a Kindergarten class 1 year in Stockton, and then taught first grade in Lodi. After moving back to Lyons in 1989, I stayed home for a while, raising babies. 😊
I’ve taught a total of 32 years, with 26 years of teaching in Lyons, half-day and all-day Kindergarten, and then my present job of Title 1/Reading Recovery.
After retirement, I’m going into “Grandma-mode,” and looking forward to our second grandbaby arriving in August. Besides a long list of farm to-do projects, I hope to spend more time in the mountains, hiking and skiing, and more travel and family time.
USD 405 has been a wonderful place to work and raise our family. I’m so very appreciative of all the great teachers, coaches and staff that our kids had while growing up here, and the opportunities I’ve had working with so many wonderful people! Our Park School staff is a special family, and I’ll miss them all very much!
WENDY FIEHLER
Sterling Grade School

My education started at HCC, then graduated with a bachelor's in education from Sterling College. Later I received my master's in reading and literacy from Walden University. I have enjoyed teaching special education for 36 years. All 36 years have been for Rice County Special Services, with my first year being at Central in Lyons. After that, I taught 5/6 special education at Alden until 5th and 6th was moved to Sterling. Since that time, I have been teaching 4-6 special education with one year also including 3rd grade. Activities have included being involved in various committees within the school. I have had the opportunity to work with amazing staff over the years, both in my building and the RCSSC staff. One of the best things about teaching is that you develop so many life-long friendships! The one thing I will miss the most is seeing my students on a daily basis. They have a way of brightening each and every day! I have no set plans for retirement, but will be looking for something different to do. I will continue to look forward to spending as much time as possible with family, including my 7 grandchildren!
