One thing is certain

USD 405 donated a DJI Phantom IV drone to the Lyons Fire Department after fire fighter Greg Moss completed the LHS drone pilot class.
The Fire Department will be able to use the drone to safely see fires from different angles, find hot spots, help with search and rescue operations, and offer the drone for mutual aid operations.
Pictured are class instructor Jim Eskut, Fire Chief Brad Reid, Greg Moss, and LHS principal Kelly Nusser.

Congratulations #NationalTeacherOfTheYear #NTOY20 @Tabatha Rosproy from Winfield! USD 405 - Lyons #LyonsLions is proud of you! #Represent @ksdehq @CCSSO

Class of 2020 Appreciation Day

The graduation ceremony for the 2020 Rice County Learning Center will be streamed live on Facebook today (May 18) at 1:00.

Lyons High School AFJROTC instructor Sgt. James Eskut teaches a drone or unmanned aircraft system (UAS) piloting class at Lyons High School. He has taught the class four semesters so far with plans to continue offering the class.
Lyons High School purchased ten DJI Phantom IV quadcopters on a grant three years ago, and determined that the school only needed five of them at a time. The school then offered to donate one each to the Rice County Sheriff's Office, the Lyons Police Department, the Lyons Fire Department, and the Rice County Emergency Services if a representative from their office would pass the course and then take the FAA licensing exam to become a UAS pilot.
Greg Moss with the fire department was the first such individual to pass the course and plans on taking the exam this summer.
Max Bryant with the sheriff's office passed the course in the Fall 2019 semester and plans to take the exam this summer.
Lyons High School donated brand new Phantom IV quadcopters to each department. The drones could be used for search & recovery efforts, pursuits, oversight activities, and finding small fires or hot spots, among other emergency uses.
