Due to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Lyons,
the Lyons USD405 schools will be moving to the hybrid learning model.
The Rice County Learning Center will remain open with regular on-site learning.
Our gating criteria includes a red flag for county incidence trend (increasing) and a yellow flag for positivity rate (7.69%), therefore we are moving to hybrid instruction
We will re-evaluate according to the latest gating criteria weekly, each Thursday afternoon to determine which learning plan we will be using the following week.

Hybrid Learning Model General Guidance:
The Hybrid Model of learning will allow students to receive part of their daily instruction in our buildings and part of their learning remotely at home. This model will allow USD 405 to reduce the number of students in our buildings while still being able to provide instruction for an in-person format. A decision to move to the Hybrid Model will be made by District Administration with guidance from the Rice County Health Department on the rate of spread and risks for exposure.
PK-5 Hybrid Model: Direct instruction in the brick and mortar setting is critical for the success of skill development in our younger students. We feel that keeping our younger aged students in the building is best for our Hybrid Model. In doing so, we will limit the exposure of students to a smaller self-contained model. This will ensure daily supervision for our younger students and would allow older students to focus on their learning instead of providing instructional support and supervision to their younger peers.
• All personnel and space will be utilized throughout the day to create smaller cohort self- contained classes. Specials teachers will work with grade level teachers to develop lesson plans, deliver lessons, assist students, and evaluate student progress.
- PreK-5 grade students, learning will be remote, not in person on Wednesdays
• Teachers would teach all contents, including specials, to students in their self-contained classrooms.
• Students would remain self-contained with the same teacher all day (lunch, recess, etc.).
• Lunch would be delivered to the classrooms.
• Extend recess and movement opportunities to allow for brain breaks and some additional social interaction with smaller cohort groups.
LMS Hybrid Plan: The Lyons Middle School Hybrid Plan is designed to ensure students stay safe while still gaining a high-quality education. This plan will divide grade levels approximately in half to allow for social distancing in the building and ensure a safe environment for learning. Measures have been taken to address and meet the needs of all students while learning in person and remotely.
Schedule:
• Monday/Thursday - A group in building / B group remote learning
• Tuesday/Friday - B group in building / A group remote learning
• Wednesday - Remote Learning for all students with focus on skill building based on MTSS data *Wednesdays will be used for deep cleaning, IEP meetings, Teacher planning periods for the week (since in this model there would be no transitions/planning periods during the other school days), and Student Improvement Team Meetings.
Dividing Groups:
• Groups A and B will be determined by students’ last name with adjustments made if needed to keep numbers low and families attending school on the same day.
Connecting with Students:
• Each morning will start with a homeroom Zoom for all students.
• Teachers will schedule a planned Zoom time for remote learning students to check-in/ask questions during the day.
Remote Learning:
• Students will be given daily agendas with specific tasks/assignments/choice boards to be completed according to a set schedule. On Wednesdays, all students will focus on skill work based on their individual needs. Teachers will use Wednesdays to contact parents concerning specific student needs.
Communication Plan:
• LMS staff will clearly communicate with parents the expectations for the hybrid model as they differ from the continuous learning model used in the spring.
• Social media, mail, IC messages, emails, newsletters, and direct communication will occur to ensure parents are informed about the hybrid model.
