Should of cadet showing badges

The LHS AFJROTC Promotion and Change of Command ceremony
was held Thursday, Jan. 12 a the t LHS auditorium.

The history of the change of command ceremony dates back to the 18th century.  The ceremony signifies the changing of the guard and establishes the authority of the incoming commander.  Thus, the tradition of publicly showing the forces who was in command came to be.  This was accomplished by the outgoing leader handing off the unit guide to the incoming leader.  By giving up the unit’s colors, the outgoing commander symbolically gave up command of that unit to the new commander.

The Air Force Junior ROTC promotion system is made up of 2 parts, permanent rank and temporary rank. Permanent rank can be achieved only through longevity in the program. In contrast, temporary rank is based solely on the position held by a cadet.  It extends from the lowest rank (cadet airman) to the highest rank in our cadet group (cadet colonel). Temporary rank is normally held for just one semester, after which time most staff positions rotate.

The promotion system used to select cadet leaders places a strong emphasis on academic standing.  A high grade point average is a prerequisite for a cadet to be considered for an officer position. In addition to academic standing, factors such as loyalty, cooperation, citizenship, patriotism, leadership, self-discipline, attendance, and participation in corps activities also impact the selection process.

The ceremony concluded with the promotion of the
